History of RNZN and the Unit

Become familiar with where the Royal New Zealand Navy has been deployed and where your Unit comes from.

Boatwork

Develop and maintain safe seamanship skills in sail, oar and motor craft.

Rigging

Learn the correct way to utilise ropes, pulleys and knots.

Survival Skills

Gain the skills to survive on land and water.

First Aid

Know how to look after yourself and your team in the area of First Aid.

General Service Knowledge

Gain knowledge about the Royal New Zealand Navy, its ships and equipment, what it offers and how it assists New Zealanders.

Instructional techniques

Develop skills in passing on knowledge to other Cadets.

Navigation

Find your way around harbours and the open coast.

Weapons training and marksmanship

Become skilled in safe weapons handling and competition shooting.

Day skipper

You get the opportunity to qualify on this Royal New Zealand Coast Guard qualification.

Boat Master

You get the opportunity to qualify on this Royal New Zealand Coast Guard advanced qualification.
